COSTA MESA, Calif. - The Warriors took to the road this week, facing off against the only other nationally ranked program in the GSAC, No. 24 Vanguard. It was a battle between both talented squads, as a single run in the top of the 5th was the only thing separating the Warriors from the Lions. With this win, Jessup advances to 23-6 overall and 14-2 in conference play.
Vanguard's strong showing on the mound would keep Jessup's hot bats at bay until the top of the 5th when the Warriors finally broke through. With two outs on the board,
Joe Starick would take his base on a walk. He wasn't on base long as a
Steve Pastora double, turned triple courtesy of a fielding error saw Starick across the plate, giving Jessup the 1-0 advantage.
"Today was a hard fought game on both sides. My hat is off to Vanguard's starter. He did an exceptional job," commented head coach
Jake McKinley, who's own pitcher had an excellent showing as well.
Ashkhon Kuhaulua pitched a complete game. He faced off against 32 batters, allowing only 3 hits and striking out 8 batters. With this win, he improves to 6-2 on the season.
"I am proud of the whole team, and especially Ash for the grit showed today. One run games are tough to win on the road and we found a way. We will continually be tested down here, but I'm very confident in our group moving forward," says Coach McKinley of his team.
The Warriors will continue their series against Vanguard tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at 9:30 am.
