PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Warriors kicked off the weekend with a pair of wins in the conference opener against Arizona Christian behind the starter in both games,
Shelbi Graifman (13-5), and a collective offensive performance to take game one 4-1 and the final game of the series 7-1 advancing to 15-8, 2-0 on the season.
GAME 1
Starting things off strong, the Warriors were the first to hit the board in the top of the second inning as a two-out rally would be led by Patterson with a single through the left side and
Mason Marshall took her free base.
Stephanie Scott would bring in the first run of the game with a single up the middle, followed by a 2 RBI single from
Corina Salinas as the Warriors led 3-0.
The game would go silent through the following four innings offensively, leaving it to the final inning for the Firestorm to catch up, or the Warriors to add more on. And that is just what the Warriors did, Scott would single to get on first and make her way around the bases to score on an RBI single from
Abbie Lewis, heading into the final three outs up 4-0.
However, Arizona Christian would push one run across to escape the shutout in the final frame with a pair of singles, scoring on a fielder's choice.
Familiar starter for the Warriors
Shelbi Graifman pitched the complete seven innings allowing just one run on five hits with six strikeouts. Scott would go 2-for-3 with an RBI, Salinas would follow going 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI's and Lewis would finish 2-of-3 with an RBI.
GAME 2
The Warriors would pick up where they left off in game two with a pair of runs in the first inning to take the early lead. Graifman would bring in Lewis on a double to left center and
Natalie Basaldua would single, with Graifman coming in to score on a fielding error by the Firestorm.
Getting back in the swing of things was Lewis who led the top of the third inning with a single to right field, advancing to second on a passed ball and in to score on another error from Arizona while Basaldua advances to second on the bad throw. Marshall would keep things going with a double to left and Hooper brought in Basaldua. Patterson would end the inning with a single to bring in the final run of the inning, Marshall, to take the 5-0 lead.
The first and only home run of the day would come in the top of the fifth from
Lauren Garoutte for a two-RBI bomb over the left field fence extending the lead 7-0.
In the bottom of he sixth the Firestorm would sneak in their only run of the game with a pair of singles and a double but the score would remain 7-1 to the finish.
Graifman nabbed her second win of the day advancing to 13-5 overall in her second seven-inning game of the day allowing just one run on five hits with 9 strikeouts, a total 15 on the day. Garoutte led going 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI's behind doubles from Graifman and Marshall.
