Warrior Faceoff Favors Jessup in Game One

Prybylinski led from the mound six full innings for his sixth win

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Continuing the race to the regular-season title and national tournament, the Warriors took the road south for their final long road trip series at Westmont College after being ranked No. 8 this week by the NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll on Tuesday afternoon. Jessup got on the board first and would finish on top in the first of the three-game series taking it 6-3, improving to 31-11, 23-5 in GSAC.

With one out, the Warriors came alive in the first frame with back-to-back-to-back singles by Will Law, Austin Swift and Cal Koga to bring the first run of the game across the plate. But it would be the following frame that the home Warriors would match Jessup's run with a double to even the score 1-1.

Taking the mound for the Warriors in his 12th outing of the season was senior Tristan Prybylinski who allowed just the one run in his total six innings pitched with seven strikeouts for his sixth win of the season.

In the top of the fourth Jessup would take the lead and add an insurance run as Cal Koga opened up the inning with a double down the leftfield line and pinch runner Andrew Shaps came in to score as Josh Duitsman doubled to the same location for the 2-1 lead. With two runners on Joey Torres was awarded the RBI with a sac fly scoring Noah Shackles who was hit by a pitch.

A pair of innings would go by before the 6th brought another run across for the Warriors as Joe Starick and Duitsman singled to get on and Torres would bring in Shackles. The final two runs would come in the following inning with Shackles clearing the bases with a 2RBI double and the 6-1 advantage.

Relieving Prybylinski in the sixth was Tyler Fujimoto who closed it out for Jessup from the rubber allowing just three hits in his three-inning outing and the final two runs for the Westmont Warriors in the bottom of the ninth.

"Today came down to Tristan (Prybylinski) giving us a quality start and Tyler (Fujimoto) picking us up out of the pen," head coach Jake McKinley said. "They gave us a chance to win the game and the offense picked up big hits when they needed them."

Jessup will look to close out the series tomorrow against Westmont starting at 11 am for a doubleheader.
