Jessup Continues Historic Run in GSAC Championship

With a 5-1 advantage over Westmont, the Warriors head to the championship game

COSTA MESA, Calif.  - Jessup would end the second day of the GSAC tournament, in the same way, they ended the first, victoriously.  The Warriors from the north would dominate offensively, ultimately defeating the Warriors from the south.  With this win, Jessup enters into the GSAC championship game with a record of 37-15.

The ballgame was in a scoreless gridlock until the Warriors broke through during a two-out rally in the top of the third.  Back to back singles from Will Law and Steve Pastora would get the inning off the ground. Austen Swift's subsequent single would be enough to bring Law home, putting Jessup ahead 1-0.  Cal Koga would walk, loading the bases for designated hitter, Joe Starick.  In true power hitter form, Starick doubled down the left field line, bringing around Pastora and Swift to give the Warriors a 3-0 lead.

Jessup was not done for the day quite yet offensively.  Pastora would start the eighth inning off with a deep double to centerfield, advancing to 3rd on a fielder's choice from Swift. Koga's single would put runners in the corners as Dakota Spiller's bunt was placed down the 1st baseline, allowing Pastora to come sliding into home for the 4-0 advantage.

The Warriors would keep coming across the plate, as a single from Takemura would start off the ninth.  A double from Duitsman would follow, putting runners in scoring position. A wild pitch would bring home a speedy Takemura to give Jessup the 5-1 lead.

Another calm and confident performance from closer Tyler Fujimoto would secure the win in the bottom of the ninth frame.  Prior to Fujimoto, ace Ashkhon Kuhaulua went seven innings, allowing only 6 hits and striking out 5 batters.

"Our guys did a great job again on both sides of the ball. Ash threw a great game and Fuji was big again. I'm proud of our guys for their continued effort and resilience," comments Head Coach Jake McKinley

Most recently announced today by the NAIA, the Warriors will host a program-first NAIA Regional May 14-18th at McBean Park. But before then, the Warriors will appear in their first ever GSAC Tournament Championship game tomorrow, May 2nd, at 2 pm at Vanguard University.
