Warriors Win the Battle with a Pair of Second-Half Goals

Baum scores the game-winner and first goal of his career in Jessup uniform

TURLOCK, Calif. - Coming off a mid-week victory over Simpson University, the men's soccer team traveled south on I5 to take on NCAA Division II opponent Cal State Stanislaus. The Stanislaus Warriors took an early lead but a tying goal would open the second half for Jessup and the game-winner found the back of the net just 5 minutes remaining in regulation for the 2-1 victory, advancing to 3-2 overall.

The first 45-minutes of play would favor the Stan State Warriors as they jumped ahead 1-0 in the 7th minute of play and were able to get off 7 shots to Jessup's 2 in the opening half. But the roles reversed after the break and favored the visiting Warriors evening the score just five minutes into the final 45 minutes.

Sophomore Tanner Federico would attack the ball off a deflection to find the back of the net and even the playing field for a 1-1 game, his second goal of the season. While Stanislaus still dominated the shots category with 8 to the Warrior's 4 in the second half, senior goalkeeper Nick Garcia defended the posts well including four saves in the closing period.

With just 5 minutes remaining in regulation,  Devon Alvarenga would set the Warriors up from a corner kick in the 84th minute and a second-chance opportunity would go to Brad Baum as he scored the winning goal for the Warriors, his first of the season and of his collegiate career.

Garcia would finish the full 90 minutes in goal for the Jessup collecting his second win of the season and posting a career-high 7 saves to keep Stanislaus State scoreless in the second half.

Jessup will return to the pitch on Wednesday with their final road game of the preseason before heading home and hosting Pacific Union College on Friday afternoon at 3 pm.
