ROCKLIN, Calif. - Coming off their biggest win in conference this season against the No. 15 and undefeated Lions, the Warriors followed up with the same intensity against San Diego Christian on Saturday afternoon securing back-to-back wins in the 88-62 victory advancing to 4-2 in GSAC.
Head Coach
Lance Von Vogt commented on the victories, "We got two very good wins this weekend and I like where our team is headed. This group has a chance to be special and they are putting in the work to get there."
It wouldn't be until 7 minutes into the first half that the Warriors would take the lead on home court as
Tyras Rattler Jr. hit his second three of the game for 8 of the Warrior's 13 points thus far. It would be a tight race with the game tied at 24 all with just under 7 minutes to play in the opening frame, but a 15-0 run would create the distance the Warriors needed to hit their stride over the next 5 minutes.
Former Hawks,
Isaiah Milan would secure the 20-point lead with a jumper seconds before the break as the Warriors would hit the locker room up 46-26. Keith Philips would lead all in white and blue with 13 points while Rattler Jr. had 10, shooting an impressive 4-for-6 from the field.
Finding another offensive burst, the Warriors would hit a 10-0 run midway through the closing half for their largest lead of the game with 34 (78-44). While the Hawks continued to battle to the finish, the Warriors remained consistent as
Tate DeLaVeaga hit the final shot of the game from deep, securing the 88-62 victory, head coach Von Vogt's 98th win for the Warriors.
Recording back-to-back doubles on this week, leading scorer Phillips finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds, while he was joined by four teammates in double figures as well;
Antonio Lewis (15),
Tyras Rattler Jr. (13), Milan (11) and Polee (11). Just two rebounds shy of a double-double, that was Rattler's 5th straight game in double digits, and Lewis' 9th in his last 10 appearances.
"We've been working really hard on developing our identity as a team and this weekend we finally started to see it take shape and come into view," Von Vogt said. "This is our bar for the remainder of the season and we build and get better from here."
