ROCKLIN, Calif— After three straight road wins the William Jessup women's basketball team was faced with the No. 11 team in the country as they lost 58-39 to Westmont College.
Head coach
Kurt Westendorp spoke highly of Westmont after the game saying, "Tonight we ran into a very talented and disciplined Westmont team that executed very well." Westendorp continued, "I thought we gave ourselves decent opportunities on the offensive end but we weren't able to capitalize with a good shooting night."
It was a quick start for Jessup as they jumped out to an 8-0 lead with all the points coming from the red hot
Creonah Bryant as she shot 4-4 to get the game started. Westmont would respond with a run of their own and at the end of the first quarter, Jessup was trailing 17-10.
Elizabeth Roark would knock down a three-pointer cutting the lead to 20-15 early in the second quarter but Jessup would be unable to put a scoring run together. At the half time break, Jessup was trailing 28-18.
The third period was Jessup's best offensive output as the tallied 16 points in the frame. Bryant was the first to score in the second half, and her bucket was followed by five points scored by
Liz Gehweiler. Going into the fourth quarter down 44-34, Jessup was unable to keep up as they lost 58-39.
Westendorp concluded by looking to the teams next matchup with a positive outlook, "We have a great opportunity on Saturday to earn a signature win against the number 5 team in the country. I'm looking forward to see how we compete."
