Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Chris Engelage

Warriors pull off a huge five-set win over No. 21 Vanguard

After trailing two sets to one, the Warriors dominated the final two sets as they stunned the No. 21 Vanguard Lions.

ROCKLIN, Calif.— The Warriors continued their winning ways as they pulled the upset over the No. 21 Vanguard University Lions after an exhilarating five-set match, 25-23, 17-25, 27-29, 25-16, & 15-10. Saturday's victory pushes the Warriors record to 9-9 overall and 6-5 in the highly competitive GSAC.

After falling behind by two points in set one, the Warriors kicked it into high gear as they scored four consecutive points to take a 13-11 lead. Later in the set, while trailing 22-21, the Warriors kept their cool and scored four out of the next five points to win the set, 25-23.

The Warriors were slow to start set two, and fell behind early. They would rally at various points in the set, bringing it within one point on two occasions, but were unable to win as they went down, 17-25.

The third set started off well for the Warriors as they claimed the initial two points, but then they quickly fell behind 4-2. A 5-0 scoring run would give the lead back to Jessup, but after a late run by the Lions, Jessup was again playing from behind. Ultimately, the Warriors would battle hard but lose in extra points, 29-27.

Even though things looked bleak for the Warriors, they remained level headed and put together a dominant fourth set. With the score tied at 7, the Warriors leaped out in front 12-7, and never looked back. Vendela Williams would put the finishing touches on the set as Jessup won 25-16, to force a decisive fifth set.

Building off the momentum from the previous set, the Warriors were up 4-1 in the blink of an eye, forcing the Lions to call a timeout. Despite the stoppage of play, there was no cooling off these red hot Warriors as they led for the entirety of the set, with the final score reading 15-10.

Taylor Jacky put on quite the show as she matched her season-high with 19 kills and set a new season-high for herself with 27 digs. Hannah Henriksen also had a phenomenal game on the attack as she recorded a new season-best for herself with 17 kills.

From the service line, Kacey Berger and Alicia Borges each had two aces while Berger also closed out the match with 21 digs and Borges with 13 of her own. In terms of ball distribution, Jessica Williams and Brianne Whitt got the job done as they ended the game with 31 and 19 assists respectively.

The team was in high spirits after the huge win and Jacky noted that as she said, "We are beyond excited to see all of our hard work payoff." She continued by saying, "We left the court today knowing we are not done working and we are not done making history for Jessup Volleyball!"

The Warriors will look to continue their win streak as they have three consecutive road games on the horizon with the first game coming on October 19th at 7 PM against Menlo College.
