Warriors' defense improves in 1-0 loss to No. 4 Westmont

ROCKLIN, Calif. - GSAC play got underway Thursday afternoon as the Warriors hosted Westmont, and while the Jessup's defense played well, the team ultimately lost 1-0 in the conference home opener.

Westmont (7-1, 1-0 GSAC) came into the match ranked No. 4 in the country but Jessup (2-7-1, 0-1 GSAC) looked up to the task early as their team defense was scrappy and resilient keeping the score tied at 0-0.

Just six minutes in, Westmont earned a corner kick but Jessup's defense held up. Then over the following 30 minutes of action, Westmont put five shots on goal before they found the net in the 35th minute taking a 1-0 lead. 

By halftime Westmont still held their 1-0 lead thanks to a 7-0 shots advantage over Jessup. 

In the second half, the Warriors were again immediately on the defensive end as Westmont had three shots in the opening 10 minutes. 

Warriors forward Karam Idris came in for the Warriors in the second half and got their only shot of the day in the 52nd minute. 

While the Warriors continued to fight for scoring opportunities Jessup couldn't get another shot on goal as Westmont had five more shots after the miss by Idris.

The strong Warrior defense is the only team outside of NCAA Div. I opponents to hold Westmont to 1 goal or less. 

Jessup returns to the field Thursday afternoon at The Master's at 4 p.m.
