Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Quinton Lilley

Warriors end regular season at Vanguard

ROCKLIN, Calif. - After coming into the final match of the season in a must-win situation to make the postseason, the Jessup men's soccer team (4-10-2, GSAC 3-4-1)  fought well but ultimately lost 4-1 at Vanguard Saturday afternoon.

The match began in Vanguard's favor as they put three shots on goal before scoring in the ninth minute taking a 1-0 lead. The Lions followed that effort up with another goal in the 10th minute.

The Warriors responded with an offensive attack of their own in the 12th minute as they had shots by Josh Freeman and Luis Castillo however neither attempt found the net as the score remained at 2-0.
Jessup continued to put pressure on the Vanguard defense with a shot by Freeman in the 19th minute and a shot from Tanner Frederico 40 seconds later but neither shot scored.

At the half, the Warriors trailed 2-0 as they looked to make a resounding comeback.
In the final 45 minutes, Vanguard struck first with a goal in the 55th minute then got an insurance goal two minutes later to take a 4-0 lead.

The Warriors made one last effort in the 78th minute as Freeman scored but that was as close as the match would get and the Lions took the win.

As the Warriors season comes to a close coach Greg Lazaga said his team's second half performance was something they can build on for next season. "I was proud of our second half response. We were able to create a lot more opportunities and learn from some of our early mistakes. Im looking forward to seeing our young players continue to grow."
