Warriors drop final match of the season at Vanguard

ROCKLIN, Calif. - The Jessup women's soccer team finished their 2019 campaign against the top team in the GSAC and while the Warriors (3-14, GSAC 1-7) put up a fight, they ultimately lost the match 8-0.

From the outset, Vanguard grabbed the early momentum as they had nine shots in the opening 12 minutes including a goal in the fourth minute as they took a 1-0 lead. However, the Lions continued to attack as they scored again in the fifth, eighth and 10th minutes.

The Lions tried to keep up the pressure later in the half as Jessup goalkeeper Camille Cavey saved attempts on consecutive possessions. 

Then the Warriors got a nice offensive attack together in the 29th minute when Lashaa Robinzine put a shot on frame but the attempt was saved and the Warriors went to halftime trailing 4-0.

In the second half, the Warriors offense was unable to put another attempt on frame as they lost 8-0. On the day Cavey had her fifth match with double-digit saves as she tallied 10.

While the ending to the 2019 season wasn't what coach Rachel Moorehead expected, she said her team has shown its' potential and that's something to build on. "Today we stepped on the field mentally defeated. We did not play to the potential we've been striving for all season. But this game does not summarize the growth we've exhibited over the last few months. I'm excited to see what they are capable of in the coming years."
