Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Quinton Lilley

Warriors drop road contest to OIT

EUGENE, Ore. - Continuing their hot hand in the first half from the night before, the Warriors shot 50-percent the first 20-minutes of play, but the second half would prove to be too much as the nationally recognized Hustlin' Owls outscored the Warriors by 16 points for the 97-80 victory Saturday afternoon.

The game was the Warriors' (5-2) second in the Beacon Classic and became one of the more hotly contested games the Warriors have been in until the Owls went on a 17-3 run in the second half proving to be the difference.

Jessup coach Lance Von Vogt said that while the result wasn't what his team wanted, they'll learn from this experience. "The outcome of tonight's game notwithstanding this trip to Oregon was good for us and we got better as a unit in some of the areas we've been focusing on."

The game began with both teams getting into a nice groove offensively as the Warriors grabbed a 9-6 lead after a three from Isaiah Milan and a layup by Austin Dill. However, OIT (9-0) answered with an 8-2 run taking a 14-11 lead by the 13:14 mark.

Later in the half, Jessup built a seven-point lead thanks to a 13-4 run that began with a Milan three and ended the same way giving the Warriors a 33-26 advantage with 4:38 left.

But the undefeated Owls responded nicely as they edged the Warriors with a one-point advantage at the break, 43-42.

In the second half the Warriors traded runs with OIT until the 15:05 mark when the Owls went on a 17-3 run that swung the momentum in their favor.

While Jessup did cut the deficit to four at the 7:35 mark, they wouldn't get any closer as OIT took the win.

One of the bright spots for the Warriors was their balanced attack as four starters scored at least 15 points. The fleet was led by Jourdan Johnson with a team-high 24 points, a second-best career performance for him and his highest outing in two seasons by 12 points, while on the night he also contributed four assists.

The team's double-digit scoring was rounded out by Milan with 17 points and Luis Medearis and Dill who each scored 15 on the night. The key difference in the Warriors offense from Friday to Saturday came at the 3-point line where they shot just 32-percent (9-for-28).

The Warriors will be off for the week of Thanksgiving and return to the court for their first GSAC action of the season when they travel to Hope International Dec. 5, tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.

Von Vogt also said once his team has all it's options the Warriors will be a tough team to beat.  "We'll take the Thanksgiving break to rest up. I like where we're headed and once we have our full roster available I believe this team has a shot to be pretty special. "
