Box Score SAN DIMAS, Calif— Fresh off the news of making the playoffs, the William Jessup volleyball team defeated Life Pacific College in straight sets, 25-22, 25-19, & 25-22 as regular season play is now finished.
The Warriors fell behind early in the opening set, trailing Life Pacific 6-11. Throughout the set Jessup kept close with Life Pacific but never took control until the waning moments. With the set nearing a close, Jessup was behind 19-21. A service error by Life Pacific brought the Warriors within one point and
Michaela Zapata followed that with a kill to tie the set. Jessup went down again, 21-22 after Zapata's kill, but they responded by scoring the final four points of the set to win 25-22.
Looking to notch consecutive set wins, the Warriors and Life Pacific were staying with each other in a close set two battle. Jessup was trailing by one point, 9-10 then scored four out of five points to lead 14-11 in quick fashion forcing Life Pacific to call a timeout. The Warriors would fend off a late push from Life Pacific and wrap up set two by scoring the final three points to win 25-19.
Entering set three, the Warriors were eager to complete the sweep and it showed as they quickly led 7-2. Life Pacific routinely would claw their way back into it, keeping things interesting. With Jessup holding a narrow 11-9 lead, they scored five unanswered points, extending their advantage 16-9. The Warriors were on the cusp of taking the third set, 24-20, and yet again Life Pacific reeled off two quick points. Taylor Jacky put the finishing touches on the match with the set winning kill, 25-22.
Vendela Williams and
Taylor Jacky led the way with 9 kills each and
Michaela Zapata finished with 8.
Kacey Berger had a team-high 25 digs and
Jessica Williams led with 20 assists. From the service line J. Williams and Jacky each had four aces.
The sweep of Life Pacific officially wraps up the regular season for the Warriors and they will now adjust their focus to the conference tournament which will be hosted by Menlo College.
