Warriors Fall to Hawks in Road Matchup

Phillips leads with 33 points as he reaches over 1,000 career points for the Warriors

SAN DIEGO, Calif.  - After another bump in the NAIA Top-25 Coaches' Poll, the Warriors took flight to Southern California for their final road series of the regular season, first stop San Diego Christian. The Warriors trailed for the majority of the game and with the final play drawn up, down by three with four seconds left, Jessup was unable to end in the win column in the 83-30 defeat to the Hawks.

The leading scorer on the night, Keith Phillips entered tonight's game just six points shy of exceeding a career 1,000 points in Jessup uniform, with only one other player in program history reaching that feat in Lucas Birchard (1,374). The starting senior wrote his name in the record book scoring his third basket of the game just seven minutes in to become just the second Warrior to reach 1,000 points and first to reach the milestone in two seasons.

The lead would change numerous times through the first half of the opening 20 minutes of the contest as the Warriors and Hawks would match basket-for-basket through the seven-minute mark. It would be the that then the home-court advantage would go on a 9-2 lead to go up by 8 points, but the Warriors would cut the lead to 5 as Phillips closed out the first half with three points.

At the break the Hawks would lead 34-29, San Diego holding the Warriors to their lowest scoring first half this season. But the tides would change in the second half as both teams would go on scoring sprees, nearly doubling their first-half scores midway through the second half.

Just five minutes into the second half Tyras Rattler Jr. would score four-straight baskets for the Warriors to tie the game 46 all with just over 13 minutes remaining in regulation. The lead would continue to flip through the 6-minute mark where the Hawks took the final advantage.

Phillips would get the Warrior within one going 2-for-3 from the charity stripe with 2:14 remaining. A couple baskets and free-throws would extend the lead back to five before Rattler Jr. closed the gap this time with a layup through the paint as the Warriors trailed, again by just one point with 57-seconds remaining.

The last chance shot would be in the Warrior's hands as they inbounded the ball at halfcourt with 4-seconds remaining, but the final shot wouldn't fall as Jessup lost the Hawks, now 18-8 overall and 9-5 in conference play.

Phillips led the Warriors in another double-double with 33 points and 12 rebounds, followed by teammate Rattler Junior with 18 points and Antonio Lewis with 10.

The Warrior will look to bounce back in a Top-25 matchup on Saturday as they head to No. 6 Vanguard University for a 2 pm tipoff.
