ROCKLIN, Calif. - The Lady Warriors hit Horton Court for their final home stand week the regular season, first welcoming OUAZ Spirit on Thursday night where a trio in double figures led the Warriors to the 10-point victory, 64-54. Warriors advance to 19-9 overall and 10-7 in conference play.
"Tonight was a great performance rebounding the basketball," head coach
Kurt Westendorp commented. "We really controlled the paint at both ends all game long."
The Warriors were off to a hot start as they took the 6-0 just minutes into the game and were able to maintain the lead through the remainder of the first quarter and through the second quarter. Opening the second quarter
Miranda Zaragoza would give the Warriors their first 10-point lead of the game with a basket in the paint.
The visiting Spirit would close the gap as the first half expired but the Warriors remained on top, 36-32.
Lily Hagerty led the forces in the opening quarters with 12 points while Zaragoza was well on her way to a double-double with 8 points and 9 rebounds.
The second half would mirror the first as the Warriors again, came out strong ending the third quarter with another 10-point advantage, 48-38. Stellar defense by the Warrior would hold their opponent to 6 points in the quarter while they doubled that outing.
In the closing quarter, the Spirit and Warriors would be even with 16 a-piece but the Warriors would reign outscoring OUAZ 64-54 for the 10th win in conference.
Offensively the Warriors were led by Hagerty with 17 points, followed by Zaragoza who recorded a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds. Closing out the double figures was
Creonah Bryant with 10 points and 9 rebounds.
The Warriors will return to Horton Court for their final home game of the season taking on Arizona Christian at 12 pm with senior day festivities prior to tip.
Westendorp concluded, "We're looking forward to honoring our seniors on Saturday and searching for win number 20!"
