Warriors Split on GSAC Home Opener against TMU

Second game win presents the first day split with two games to follow

LINCOLN, Calif.— The William Jessup Warriors hosted The Masters University Mustangs for the first conference home games of the season where the Warriors split the pair of games with a game two comeback.

In the opening game of the series, the Warriors would go on to lose 11-6. Ricardo Torres received the loss after pitching three innings and giving up five hits with five earned runs. Initially, it was a good start for the Warriors as Will Law hit into a ground out that scored the game's first run and Torres held the Mustangs scoreless through two innings.

The Warriors would then give up six runs before putting any more up themselves as the score read 6-1 entering the bottom of the fifth inning. The next four runs were scored by the Warriors over a two-inning stretch, trimming the deficit down to one run. However, the Warriors would only go on to score one more run as they lost the series opener 11-6.

It was a quick turnaround for the Warriors in the second game and after giving up the first run to the Mustang's in the first inning, Jordan Yu knocked a two-run bomb over the left field fence and Noah Shackles would score off a throwing error. After two innings of work, the Warriors had the lead, 3-1.

The next four runs were put on the board by the Mustangs but the Warriors showcased their resiliency scoring two runs in the fifth inning tying the game, 5-5. As the bats came alive coupled with multiple errors by the Mustangs, the Warriors put together their highest-scoring inning, scoring six runs as they took a commanding 11-5 lead. The Warriors would hang on to defeat the Mustang's after a ninth-inning rally fell short, as the score read 11-7.

Tyler Fujimoto earned the win after pitching two and one thirds inning putting his record at 2-0 on the season. The Warriors are scheduled for another double-header against the Mustangs on Saturday at 1 & 4 PM weather permitting.
