LINCOLN, Calif. - The rain continues to put a delay on the Jessup softball schedule, this time against Norcal foe Menlo College that was slated for Saturday but was rescheduled to now be at home on Monday afternoon rather than in Atherton. The Warriors weren't able to find their groove dropping the doubleheader to the Oaks.
The Oaks would strike early against the Warriors in the noon start time posting 5 runs in the first three innings before the Warriors were able to push a couple across of their own. In the bottom of the third, the Warriors would start a two-out rally as
Taya Ruiz knocked a double to left center bringing in the Warriors lone two runs of the game.
Another six-run top of the fourth and five runs in the top of the fifth would end the game in the bottom of the frame as the Oaks took it 16-2.
Abbie Lewis led the Warriors going 2-for-3 with a stolen base while Ruiz recorded her 2-RBI double, in the circle,
Taylor Garcia tallied her first loss of the season.
The Warriors would find some momentum in the second game of the day adding the first three runs of the game to the scoreboard. In the bottom of the opening frame, Lewis would lead off with a walk and her second stolen base of the game, pushed over to third as
Jenna Patterson hit a single to grass, and came in to score on a sacrifice fly by
Mehana Johns. Patterson would then score on a sacrifice bunt for the 2-0 advantage.
The Warriors would add one more in the following frame with a leadoff double by
Jena Ovens, coming in to score on a sacrifice fly by
Jordyn Turner. But the Oaks would wake up in the top of the third matching those three runs and adding another to go up 4-3.
Menlo would add two more runs in the fifth and two in the top seventh to go up 8-3, but the Warrior would have their final chance to even the playing field in the last chance inning.
In her first appearance in Warrior uniform,
Michaela Haines pinch hit for the Warriors and started things off with a single through the right side. Patterson would follow suit, followed by Johns would bring in Lewis and Ruiz coming through again with her third RBI of the day, Warriors now trail just 8-6. But it would end there as the inning retired and the Warriors dropped game two 8-6.
Starting the circle and helping in the box, Patterson would go 3-for-4 in the second matchup followed by Johns who went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI's.
The Warriors will hit the road for their first conference top-25 matchup against Hope International on Friday, followed by Vanguard University on Saturday.
