COSTA MESA, Calif. - Closing out their first conference road trip, the Warrior softball team made their last stop at No. 12 Vanguard University where another tight matchup would end in the Lions favor in game one and two as the Warriors drop to 7-12, 2-7.
Dominating the circle to opening up the series against the nationally ranked Lions was
Brooke Sarro who held the home team to a no-hitter through the fourth inning where they got two of their four hits, but the game was still scoreless.
Jessup would hit the board first in the top of the fifth inning as
Abbie Lewis hit the RBI double to bring in
Lauren Garoutte who started things off with a single through the left side. But it wouldn't take long for the Lions to answer back as they leveled the playing field in the following frame, and would knock in the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth.
The final opportunity would go three up, three down as the Warriors dropped a close game one, 2-1, Vanguard wins.
Game two would start the same before the Lions found their groove and put up the only runs scored in the bottom of the sixth with five runs. Again the Warriors would battle five scoreless innings with the nationally recognized program against starting pitcher,
Taylor Garcia.
The lone hits for game two would belong to
Mehana Johns who was 2-for-2 with a walk.
Another home series will bring the Warriors back to Lincoln to take on San Diego Christian on Saturday, the doubleheader starting at 12 pm at Wilson Park.
