SANTEE, Calif. - Jessup softball took on St. Katherine on Saturday in a doubleheader where the Warriors pushed 11 runs across in each contest for the sweep over the Firebirds in their first doubleheader of two scheduled this week.
An early start would put the Warriors on the board in the first frame of game one as senior
Lauren Garoutte hit an RBI double, just her first hit of three as she led the team going 3-for-4. Garoutte would start the four-run rally in the third inning as well as she reached on a Firebird error bringing in Mahana Johns.
Jena Ovens would close out the inning with a two-RBI single to extend their lead 6-2. The Firebirds would answer back with a pair of their own crossing the plate but it would stop there as starting pitcher
Taylor Garcia got her seventh win on the season allowing no more runs.
The Warriors would post another run in the fifth before a five-run inning to close it out in the sixth. Garoutte led the Warriors going 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and 4 RBI's, followed by Johns, Ovens and
Chelsie Kam-Aweau who all hit .500 going 2-for-4.
Another strong start would find the Warriors in game two as they posted 3 runs in the first inning led by Johns with a double. Another first run on the day would come from an RBI single from Garoutte and an error would score the second run,
Jordyn Turner would bring in the final one of the inning.
Three more runs would come in the middle frames of the third and fourth before the Firebirds would get their first run in on the later end of the fourth. Five more runs would cross in the final two frames and a late comeback by the home team would make it an 11-5 final as the Warriors swept the first of the two series against St. Katherine.
Johns would lead the Warriors going 4-for-5 with an RBI and two doubles,
Jenna Patterson close behind going 3-for-5 with 3 stolen bases. The 18 hits by the Warriors is the most in a single game this season.
Brooke Sarro would get the win in her 7-inning outing with three strikeouts.
Monday the Warriors will return one more time to take on St. Katherine before heading home for their final home two home series against Hope International and Vanguard University before finishing the season at Menlo College on the 24th.
