MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - The Warriors faced the No. 1 seed and host school, St. Thomas University on Tuesday where a trio of lightning delays would give the Warriors yet another delayed start for over two hours. While the Warriors have been able to quickly erase seemingly any deficit this season, St. Thomas' early lead was too much to overcome as the Warriors dropped their first game of the tournament, 7-3.
In the first inning, the Warriors got off to a good start when they took advantage of a wild pitch as
Kawaiola Takemura scored to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead. But the following frame the Bobcats offense got going as they tied things up on a Warriors' fielding error, and capitalized on a throwing error aiding STU to grab the 2-1 lead.
Senior
Tyler Fujimoto started on the mound for the Warriors as fellow senior,
Ashkhon Kuhaulua would come in relief in the third as the home team held the 5-1 advantage.
An attempt at a comeback was sparked in the fifth as
Jordan Williams would single to left to bring in
Noah Shackles, but that's all the Bobcats would surrender in the inning as two runners would be stranded at second and third, 5-2 STU.
St. Thomas then added a pair of insurance runs in the fifth and eight giving them the security they needed as the Warriors would push one across in the ninth but it wouldn't be enough as they dropped their first game of the double-elimination regional, 7-3.
The Warriors offense was led by Williams,
Anders Green, and
Josh Duitsman as each had two hits apiece. Williams also led the team with two RBI.
Jessup baseball will be back in action Wednesday at 8 am PST against Thomas in an elimination matchup as the Warriors look to battle back to the Championship game.
