Warriors force title game with bottom of ninth walk-off

Jordan Williams brings in the final and deciding run for the Warriors to head to the championship game

IRVINE, Calif. - The Warriors went into the final day of the GSAC Baseball Championship having to win two-straight over the Royals in order to clinch their second-straight GSAC Tournament title and the automatic berth into the NAIA Opening Round. In what was an early lead for the Warriors, would soon be recorded as their fourth walk-off of the season in the bottom of the ninth as Jordan Williams recorded the RBI to win game one 10-9 over the Royals forcing a championship duel.

A quick 3-run lead in the bottom of the first inning for the Warriors would be backed by a double-double, two singles and two doubles, as Austen Swift brings in the first run and Cal Koga with the 2-RBI single for an early lead.

Starting on the mound for Jessup was Grant St. Martin, who was replaced by Jordan Yu in the top of the second going a strong 5.1 innings for the Warriors with six strikeouts.

A scoreless 3 frames would go by before Hope International looked to close the gap in the top of the fifth inning, but the Warriors would answer right back with their own two runs with Koga hitting a double while designated hitter, Grant St. Martin made it 5-2 with a single up the middle.

The rally would continue in the following frame as Jessup added another trio to the runs scored with Swift tallying another RBI and the Royals walking in a run.

Nevertheless, the tide would change in the top of the seventh where Hope International put up six runs to tie it up. The Warriors would regain the lead in the bottom of the seventh as Williams collected the sacrifice fly.

Tie ballgame, 9-9, the bottom of the ninth, the Warriors had the last-chance opportunity to force a championship matchup with the Royals and a lead-off single by Noah Shackles got things started. Scoring the go-ahead run just two innings prior, Williams hit a shallow knock to centerfield to bring in the run as the Warriors tallied their fourth walk-off of the season and the 10-9 advantage.
