Warriors fall in season opener to Lewis-Clark

ASHLAND, Ore—The William Jessup volleyball team hit the road for their season opener against Lewis-Clark State College at the Raider Invitational hosted by Southern Oregon University. Despite many great moments, the Warriors fell in three sets, 20-25, 24-26, and 22-25.

In the opening set, the Warriors nabbed the first point but were unable to sustain a lead as Lewis-Clark held the advantage for the remainder of the set. Jessup went on a 4-1 scoring spurt as the set neared conclusion but the run was short-lived as they lost 20-25.

After playing catchup for the majority of the second set, the Warriors found themselves down 20-24. A Lewis-Clark service error kick-started a wave of momentum for the Warriors as they came surging back to tie the game at 24 all. Unfortunately, in extra points, the Warriors were unable to rally for the win as they lost 24-26.

The first two points of the third set were scored by the Warriors thanks to Brianne Whitt with back-to-back aces. Early in the set, the Warriors had Lewis-Clark on the ropes leading 14-10. However, the lead didn't last as the Warriors went down 22-25.

Senior Taylor Jacky led the team with 7 kills and 12 digs. Cassidy Maw and Brianne Whitt each finished the night with a pair of aces while Jessica Williams ended the game with a team-high 13 assists.

It's a quick turnaround as Jessup will play a double-header tomorrow starting at 9 AM against Oregon Tech followed by a 1 PM contest against tournament host school Southern Oregon.
