Slow start downs Warriors at Humboldt State

ARCATA, Calif. - The Jessup women's soccer team fell behind in the opening minutes and couldn't mount a comeback as they lost 4-0 Saturday afternoon at Humboldt State.

Head coach Rachel Moorehead said, "Today's match against a very talented HSU squad exposed the areas we still need improvement."

The Warriors (2-5-0) got off to a slow start allowing two goals in the opening five minutes of play. After trailing 2-0, the Warriors' defense settled down as they held the Jacks (1-2-2) scoreless in the final 40 minutes of the half.

Jessup countered on offense as they had three shots in the first half, but weren't capable of converting to goals.

In the second half, Humboldt scored in the 55th and 65th minutes to extend their lead, 4-0, while holding the Warriors to a lone shot in the final half.

Individually, goalkeeper Camille Cavey had a tremendous day with 11 saves.

Moorehead said that while the loss wasn't the result her team hoped for, they were able to do some things they can build on going into conference play. "We have all the pieces, we just need to find a way to connect them. The girls show moments of greatness, but we have to play a full 90 minutes to complete the match."

The Warriors return to the field Thursday at 4:30 p.m. when they'll host Westcliff.
