LINCOLN, Calif. – The conference opening series continued for the Warriors as they took to McBean Park to face Westmont for the second doubleheader. Jessup looked to make adjustments and find their rhythm and was able to straighten things out as they split the day against Westmont giving Jessup a 12-6 record overall.
Game one: Westmont 8, Jessup 4
Jessup was able to start things off early as
Mike Shoenberger hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first to score
Kawaiola Takemura. Westmont answered quickly and then scraped together an 8-1 lead. Jessup was able to cut the lead to a four-run deficit, but dropped game one, 8-4.
Kristian Hernandez started for the Warriors and faced off against a tough Westmont batting order earning four strikeouts before
Isaiah Rodriguez took over. Then, in the fifth inning,
Ricardo Torres, Jr. came in to close it out. Torres, Jr. had a successful close as he only allowed two hits and earned one strikeout in his 18 batters faced.
Game two: Jessup 3, Westmont 1
Westmont started things off in game two with an early one-run lead in the top of the third. Jessup turned things around with a three-run homer off the bat of Kevin Jordan, Jr. his first of the season. The Warriors took game two, 3-1.
The starter,
Max Moreno, earned his fourth win of the season with his five innings of work as he gave up just three hits, one run, one walk, and took four strikeouts. In the sixth inning,
Brett Wetteland came in to close and earned the save with his two innings of work.
The Warriors hit the road to Arizona for a four-game series against Ottawa University of Arizona in Surprise, Arizona, on February 21st and 22nd. Games on Friday begin at 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM.
