ROCKLIN, Calif. – With five points in the bag after a GSAC victory over Menlo College on Saturday, the Warriors looked to continue their climb up the GSAC standings with a home match Thursday against San Diego Christian. Excellent goalkeeping denied several opportunities at goal, but finally, the levy broke, as Jessup struck gold with a 1-0 win.
Jessup's possession was overwhelming in the opening 45-minutes, with the ball remaining in their attacking third virtually the entire time. The chances at goal were there, but the net would not be found in the opening half.
In the opening frame, the Warriors outshot the visiting Hawks 8-2.
Into the second half, Jessup again controlled possession, with numerous opportunities coming close. In the first five minutes of the second half, Jessup would be denied by two diving saves, one coming off a free kick from
Kaylee Gillespie that was driven under the SDCC wall towards the near post.
With all these chances narrowly missing, the Warriors finally struck their best luck of the day as a foul in the box awarded Jessup a penalty.
Veteran defender
Sarah Foulk, still looking for goal number one this season, stepped up to the dot and sent it home to give the Warriors the only goal of the day in their 1-0 victory.
In goal Thursday was
Olivia Foulk, Sarah's sister, and she records another collegiate shutout while making two saves along the way.
The Hawks would only get off three shots in the match, as Jessup dominated with a commanding 17-3 shot advantage.
Thursday's victory extends Jessup's unbeaten streak to now ten matches, dating back to early September. The Warriors (8-2-2, 2-0-2 GSAC) are sitting on eight points in the GSAC standings.
Next on the schedule is another home date on the turf this Saturday when the Warriors take on the Vanguard Lions at 11 a.m.
