Warriors Suffer Season’s First Loss at the Hands of Oregon Tech

Jessup’s bench provided 24 of their 51 points; Season continues Wednesday with game one of a five-game road trip

ROCKLIN, Calif. – Jessup hit the court for the second time in 19 hours as they closed out the 15th Annual Bill Holtz Warrior Classic on Saturday against the Oregon Tech Owls. Taking on a team with fresh legs, fatigue set in early for the Warriors as they suffer their first defeat of the season, 81-51.

The Owls jumped out to an early first-quarter lead thanks to a 56-percent showing from the field. Oregon Tech stole Jessup's game plan from a night ago, as they made their living down low, scoring 16 of 21 first-quarter points in the paint.

Where the Warriors saw the bulk of their offensive success come from is their bench play. The Warriors put up 28 first-quarter points, 17 of which came from the bench.

Kayla Vieira made the largest first-half impact of the Jessup reserves, as she connected on 3-of-4 from the field for eight first-half points. Vieira also led the Warriors at the break with three rebounds.

Oregon Tech controlled the rebound game early on, outrebounding the Warriors 22-to-12 in the first 20 minutes of play. Backed by a 58-percent showing from the field in the second half, Oregon Tech entered the locker room leading 41-28.

Jessup's shooting woes continued in the third quarter, as they connected on just five of their 15 attempts from the field. Just one of the Warriors' five attempts from 3-point range found the bottom of the net.

Through three-quarters of play in Warrior Arena, the Warriors faced their largest deficit of the season thus far, entering the fourth trailing by 17.

The fourth quarter of Friday's contest saw fatigue kick in for Jessup, as they connected on just 3-of-12 from the field compared to a 67-percent performance from their counterparts. Oregon Tech outscored Jessup 21-8 in the closing minutes to take the 30 point victory.

Scoring-wise, Jessup's bench continued to be the strong point of their Friday attack as they accounted for 24 of their 51 points. Natalie Moulos led the Warriors with ten points, while three Warriors (Vieira, Makaila Glynn, Monica Valenzuela) closed with eight.

Leading the scoring for Oregon Tech was Melissa Lee who's 23 points came on a 9-of-13 performance from the field. Abby Kreiser (12) and Maddysun Tull (11) also closed in double figures.

Friday's loss is the first in a young season for the Warriors as they move to 2-1.

Next on the schedule, after four needed days off, comes the first road trip of the season as the Warriors visit UC Merced on Wednesday. This will be the first of a five-game road trip.
