ROCKLIN, Calif. - The Warriors returned to Horton Court on Friday night for the first of a pair of home-court advantages over the weekend playing the Vanguard Lions first. Unable to take a set, the Warriors fell 3-0 (18-25, 18-15, 20-25) now 9-11 overall and 8-4 in conference play.
Each set started neck-and-neck, but it would be the Lions that would overcome the battle down the stretch of each game. Locked at 9 in the opening set, the visiting Lions went on a 4-0 run that the Warriors answered back to with a pair of points off errors, but the momentum would shift back in the Lions' favor as they finished out 5-1 for the win, 25-18.Â
One of the two leading offensive threats on the night,
Mary Padilla would start the second set with a slam as the Warriors looked to come back from the first set deficit. But again, Vanguard would take a large lead, 20-13, down the stretch before the Warriors put together a trio of points with an ace by Padilla and kill by
Taylor Dilley (20-15).Â
The second set would still favor the Lions as they took the 2-0 advantage with another 25-18 win.
The final set went back-and-forth through 15 points before a 4-0 rush by the Lions would put them up 18-15. Down the stretch, the Warriors would get within three before the final two points favored Vanguard for the sweep.
The Warriors were led by Padilla and Dilley with 11 kills, as
Ella Hartford recorded the most assists with 17 and 10 digs with
Lauren Toon.
We'll be back to Horton Court tomorrow at 2 pm against San Diego Christian.Â
