FULLERTON, Calif. - The GSAC has proved to be a competitive conference as the Warriors continued the close battle sets in their final match of the season against Hope International on Saturday. Down two sets, the Warriors rallied back, but it wasn't enough as they fell to the Royals 3-1 (24-26, 21-25, 25-15, 19-25), ending their season 11-14 overall and 10-8 in GSAC play.
Set one saw 11 ties through the 25 regulated points before the decision favored the Hope Royals in extra points 26-24. The close battle started with the Warriors on top 4-1, where three kills delivered the strong lead for the Warriors.
Madalyn Miller and
Mary Padilla would continue their offensive dominance from Friday night as the first set; the pair saw 11 kills to start.
Another close-set match would favor the home team in the second set as the Royals took the 2-0 advantage with a 25-21 win. But it wasn't over yet as the Warriors came flying back in the third set with a lead that carried through to the 10-point victory.
All tied up at 9, the Warriors went on a 4-0 run to set the momentum for the remainder of the set. Allowing just five more points for the Royals, a 9-1 run would close the set as Miller, and
Cloe Gunter had a pair of kills, leading the force for a 25-15 victory.
The fourth set was a deciding factor for the Warriors as the Royals held the 2-1 advantage. However, it would be nothing less than what we have seen all season, and day, as both teams rallied through the whole set. While the Warriors would fail to hold the lead at any point, they would continue to fight as they got within two in the final rally 21-19, but a Royal surge would prevail as they took the following 4 points to take the set 25-19 and the match 3-1.
The Warriors would be led by Miller and Padilla's weekend as they tallied 16 kills each on the day, followed by Devin Bette,
Preslee Nunez and
Cloe Gunter all with 5.
Mallory Pazin (19) and
Alyssa Bartlett (18) led in assists, and Padilla (23) and Maddy Marlow (22) led defensively in digs.
