ROCKLIN, Calif. - The Jessup women's volleyball team was back on their home floor as they hosted the Bushnell University Beacons and lost a hard-fought battle in three sets. The Warriors' record now stands at 2-2 as Golden State Athletic Conference play will soon begin.
Â
Head coach
Tiger Shelton said after the game, "We are a young team that made mistakes tonight, but we are going to keep trying to get better." While the youthful errors can be frustrating for Shelton, he knows the future is bright. "I'm really happy for the girls because they are getting better," said Shelton. He ended by saying, "Playing high-level competition against good teams will only make us better."
Â
After a rocky start to the first set trailing 1-5, the Warriors pressed on and scored six of the next seven points, taking a 7-6 advantage. The lead changed four times with each team matching each other's point, and the Beacons pulled away, leading 17-13. Once again, though, the Warriors showed their fight as they came back and tied the set at seventeen. Unfortunately, Jessup only claimed one more point that set, losing 18-25.
Â
Things remained evenly matched, moving into the second set. As each team traded points, there was a total of eleven ties, but a late push from the Warriors came up short. Jessup was able to improve their point total but came up short, 21-25.
Â
Set three was another rough start for the Warriors as they trailed 2-6 in the early going. Jessup continued playing from behind but received a jolt of momentum off a
Shea DeJoseph kill. After the kill, the Warriors were down 14-20 but went on to score eight of the next ten points. With the score knotted up at twenty-two, the Warriors were unable to top the Beacons, losing 22-25.
Â
The Warriors will have a short break then jump into GSAC play as they hit the road to face-off with Arizona Christian University on February 23 & 24.
