REDDING, Calif. – Jessup softball headed to Redding for the first of a two-day stint of games against the (RV) Simpson University Red Hawks and (1) Southern Oregon University Raiders. Despite strong showings in each contest, the Warriors dropped both games, putting their record at 2-5.
Head coach
Brie Campbell shared her thoughts after the two games saying, "Today was another day of great competition. We had our chances in both contests, but it just didn't end in our favor."
Starting things off Jessup played the host Red Hawks and lost a hard-fought battle 2-4. After trailing by two-runs,
Shay Trent knocked a two-run bomb out of the park tying the game at 2-2 in the last chance inning (top of seventh).
Pitching for the Warriors was
Terra Goetz who had a solid outing pitching a complete game with 5 strikeouts. The Red Hawks, however, responded with a walk-off home run in the final inning as the Warriors went down 4-2.
In game two the Warriors faced the number one ranked Raiders and had a terrific start as they quickly put up two runs. SOU didn't waste any time to respond as they put up three of their own runs taking a 3-2 lead. With the bases loaded in the fourth inning, Makayla Altheide went late in the count as the 2019 NAIA Pitcher of the Year walked a run in.
Kaela Hangebrauck then gave the lead back to Jessup with a solo shot over the left-field fence, while later in the fifth inning,
Seli Aholelei got in on the fun hitting a solo homer as well. Despite the late push from the Warriors they went on to lose game two, 7-5.
Campbell finished by saying, "We have another pair tomorrow and we're looking forward to putting the pieces together to come out strong for a pair of complete games against these ranked opponents."
