Men’s Soccer Lose 2-1 In Second of Back-To-Back Games

Jessup return to the field for their home opener Thursday afternoon against Simpson

REDDING, Calif. - The Jessup men's soccer team took the field for the second time in the last two days, and despite playing a competitive ninety minutes, they lost 2-1 on the road to the Simpson Red Hawks.

Head coach Greg Lazaga shared his thoughts after the game saying, "This was a tough weekend for us that we need to bounce back and learn from." Lazaga added, "We will need to make some tactical adjustments on both sides of the ball."

Five minutes into the game, the Warriors gave up the first goal on a free-kick, but they stayed level-headed and continue to fight. The next seventy minutes were evenly matched, with both teams playing well.

In the seventy-fifth minute of the game, the Warriors were able to get on the board. Josh Freeman lined up for a corner kick, which was cleared straight up. When the ball came back down, Tanner Federico scored on the redirect, tying the game at one apiece.

The Red Hawks landed their dagger in the eighty-fourth minute as Ruben Barajas connected with Joel Sterling, putting the score at 2-1.

Lazaga went on to say, "Set pieces hurt us early in both games. In each of the matches this weekend, we dug ourselves in a hole in the opening moments by switching off on assignments with runners and careless plays.

"We will need to learn from these mistakes if we want results. If we do, I am confident this group will find its stride. I'm looking forward to getting back to work real soon!"

The Warriors will get another shot at the Red Hawks as the two teams will run it back next week on Thursday, February 11 at 1 p.m., with the game again being played in Redding.
