110-Minutes Are Not Enough as Jessup Draw with The Master's, 1-1

Foulk nets a penalty kick in the 21st minute for WJU's lone goal, Warriors with several great looks at a winner late

ROCKLIN, Calif. – It took over 100 minutes to decide the outcome of Wednesday's match between the Warriors and The Master's University. After a number of great looks at goal in the overtime periods, no winner would be decided as Jessup draw with the Mustangs, 1-1.

After the match, Head Coach David Nolan loved the fight in his team, stating, "A hard-fought result for us. The effort the girls gave was fantastic. We had our chances, and with a little bit of composure in front of goal, it was a game we could have won."

Wednesday got off to a tough start for Jessup, as in the 13th minute, a Mustang cross hit off the back of Carly Hinton, ricocheting into the net to put TMU up 1-0.

Needing an equalizer, Jessup got their opportunity in the 21st minute. Sarah Foulk whipped a corner kick into the box, and after a scrum for the ball, the referee signaled for a penalty as TMU was called for a handball. Foulk stepped up to the dot and slotted the ball past the keeper to notch the score at 1-1.

Jessup saw their best chance to take the lead in regulation at the 78-minute mark, as they were awarded back-to-back corners. On both attempts, Jessup had a close chance at goal near the six-yard box, but TMU defenders were able to block the opportunities before the ball could find netting.

In the first overtime period, a Jessup breakaway seemed to be setting up the winner, as Madison Leonhardt rocked a shot at a near open goal. The ball clanked the right post, missing a victory by inches. Leonhardt had another opportunity in the second overtime, making a run into the box, but her near post shot was saved.

After 110-minutes of soccer, no winner was decided as the Warriors pick up their first draw of the year, moving to 1-7-1.

Nolan spoke about the growth of his team this year, adding, "Before the game, We spoke about no more baby steps, and the girls are starting to take big steps today. We wanted to be the best at what's we can control, like our effort, and today we worked relentlessly for 110 minutes. Very proud of the performance."

Jessup shifts their focus to a non-conference opponent now, as they travel to the Bay Area to take on Dominican University of California Monday at 3 p.m.
