SANTEE, Calif. – After back-to-back battles against teams in the top-25, the No. 4 ranked Warriors returned to the hardwood on Saturday, paying a visit to San Diego Christian. In another important GSAC contest, the Warriors controlled the game throughout, picking up a needed victory, 87-56.
"I am extremely happy with how our guys competed today after the big one on Thursday," said Von Vogt after the win. "It shows maturity and consistency which we will need to go to the places that were trying to get to."
The win keeps the Warriors in prime position within the Golden State Athletic Conference, sitting on a record of 9-2 within GSAC play. Overall, the Warriors move to 21-2 on the season.
Pacing the Warriors offensive attack in this one was an attack by committee. Jessup saw four players finish in double-figures, three of which came from the starting five.
Cashemin Williams and
Charlie Garrison finished with the most points in the box score, as each scored 12. The two only missed two shots from the floor, each, as the Warriors produced an efficient attack from the floor.
The Warriors jumped out to a big first-half lead, leading 38-15 at halftime. In the opening 20 minutes of basketball, Jessup shot 52-percent from the floor compared to just a 17-percent showing by the host Hawks.
Saturday's second half saw an increase of offense by both sides, as the Warriors put up 49 points on the board compared to 41 from the Hawks. SDCC's second-half point total was more than double that of the first half.
Others in double-figures for the Warriors were the two Corey brothers,
Myles Corey and
Malik Corey. Both scored 11 points apiece.
The Warriors did a great job spreading the ball around the court as 11 of the 12 players who saw game time scored. Jessup also had assists on 22 of their 35 made field goals.
"It was great to see everybody on the floor competing for a full 40 minutes," added Von Vogt. "A lot of good things from everybody that played. Travel home, get ready for a big week next week at Warrior Arena."
Jessup will now return home next week to play host to Life Pacific on Thursday night. Life Pacific took Jessup to double overtime in their previous meeting before the Warriors finally edged ahead with a 98-95 victory.
The homestand then continues as Vanguard and Menlo pay visits to Warrior Arena. The Warriors will be looking for a season sweep of Menlo and redemption against Vanguard as the Lions defeated Jessup 86-73 on November 18.
Before these contests occur, the NAIA will once again see a new look as the latest Coaches Poll is released on Wednesday morning. The Warriors went 3-1 since the release of the previous poll two weeks ago.
Two of the Warriors' seven remaining games are against teams who received votes in the previous poll.
