Warriors Wrap Up Road Trip by Knocking off San Diego Christian

Jessup returns home next week to begin a three-game homestand against Life Pacific, Vanguard, and Menlo

SANTEE, Calif. – The Warriors completed their second tour of Southern California on Saturday, visiting Santee and the San Diego Christian Hawks. It's a season sweep of the Hawks for Jessup, as they pick up the road victory by the final of 62-59.

"Sloppy game, but we pulled it out," said head coach Corey Laster. "I though offensively we still need to work to get better. Our freshmen played well today to help offset some bad shooting. Figured out a way to chip out an ugly win. Any win is a good win."

Saturday's victory pushes the Warriors to 11-12 on the season, 6-5 in conference play. The win also moves the Warriors one step closer to a .500 record away from Warrior Arena, as they sit at 6-7 on the road.

Leading the way in the scoring column was Makaila Glynn and JoeLyn Stirton who each dropped a team-high 11 points.

Jessup shot 32-percent from the floor, compared to a 33-percent showing from the Hawks. The Warriors complimented their shooting efforts by finishing just 4-of-19 from three-point range.

The Warriors jumped out to a hot start in this one, a trend seen in most of their wins as of late. Jessup led 19-12 late in the first quarter, but the Hawks clawed back, sending the game into the second at 19-17.

SDCC scored the first basket of the second quarter, evening the game at 19, and forcing Laster to use a timeout. It was a well-used stoppage, as the Warriors charged out to 5-0 run to regain some momentum.

At halftime, the Warriors led 34-29.

Out of the break, the Hawks once again made a ballgame out of it, cutting within one of the Warriors' lead and eventually taking a one-point lead of their own. But again, Jessup finished hot, taking a three-point lead into the final frame.

Quarter four was all Warriors, as they controlled momentum throughout until SDCC made one final charge. The Hawks got within two scores, but the Warriors held on to bring a win back to Rocklin.

The weekend trip to Fullerton and Santee marks the final time in the 2021-22 regular season that the Warriors will visit Southern California. One more road trip remains, February 10 – 12, when the Warriors visit the Grand Canyon State to take on Arizona Christian and OUAZ.

Next on the schedule for Jessup comes a three-game conference homestand, starting with Life Pacific on January 27. Also, paying visits to Warrior Arena will be No. 20 Vanguard on January 29 and Menlo on February 5.
