SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The schedule did not get any easier after losing the reigning national champions two nights ago. Continuing a GSAC road trip, the Warriors were in Santa Clarita on Saturday to face an undefeated and No. 8 ranked The Master's University.
The host Mustangs possess the nation's top-scoring defense, and with that, they were able to push their record to a perfect 18-0, defeating the Warriors, 76-47.
Jessup put up a fight in the first half of this one. While they had only scored six points in the first quarter, they did stifle the Mustangs' offense, forcing six turnovers. The Warriors would even piece together an 8-0 run between the second and third quarters, trailing by just eight in the final half.
Proving to be too much down low was one of the nation's best post players, TMU's Stephanie Soares. Leading all players Saturday, Soares scored 32 points on 11-of-16 shooting. She went a perfect 8-for-8 at the line as well.
The Warriors had a trio of players finish Saturday in double figures.
Cheyenne Jankulovski led the team with 13 points on 6-of-16 from the floor. Other starters,
JoeLyn Stirton and
Jacklyn Kulow, would score ten apiece.
Jessup's best offensive quarter of the day came in the fourth as they put up 18 points to TMU's 26. The Mustang's 20-9 advantage in the third proved to be the main factor in the game getting away from the Warriors.
Saturday wraps up a very tough section of Jessup's schedule, as both games this week came against teams in the NAIA top-10. With a new poll coming out on Wednesday, it is expected that TMU could jump into the top-5.
The Warriors drop to 8-11 overall, 3-4 in GSAC play. The remainder of the schedule will be against conference opponents.
Saturday is also a welcome end for this Jessup team. With their December 31 home game being canceled, Jessup found themselves now on a six-game road trip. The Warriors have not played inside Warrior Arena since December 4.
The long-awaited homecoming ends on Thursday as the Warriors welcome OUAZ to Rocklin for the first of two games against the GSAC's Arizona schools. Arizona Christian will be in Rocklin on Saturday.
