ATHERTON, Calif. – The Warriors resumed GSAC play on Saturday, hitting the road for a match with the Oaks of Menlo College. After the Warriors got on the board first, it looked to be going Jessup's way, but a flurry of second-half goals sent Jessup back home with a 4-1 loss.
Head coach
Greg Lazaga spoke after the match, stating, "It was a back-and-forth game for so long that it's hard to end the game with the score line the way it was."
The two sides were locked in a scoreless battle for the first 45 minutes of Saturday's match. Finally, after 48 minutes without a goal, the Warriors popped a one on the board when
Luis Castillo converted a penalty kick that was awarded to Jessup after a Menlo foul in the box, stopping a breakaway chance.
Jessup's lead, however, was not to be held long. Menlo tied the match up just one minute later.
Menlo would take the lead in the 55th minute thanks to Oliver Mayer's fifth goal of the season. Bernando Silva would score his second goal of the day late in the match, which would be followed by a goal from Mattia Celant to seal the score line.
"As soon as we went up, we made a couple of defensive mistakes that really hurt us with two quick goals," added Lazaga. "We need to mature in these moments and answer back. Unfortunately, we lost tempo instead. We will need to rest up and work hard to get it back for Thursday."
Gerardo Perez Plata made four saves in his 90 minutes.
The Warriors return home for their final two home matches of the season, beginning with OUAZ on Thursday. Jessup will then welcome Arizona Christian to Warrior Field on Saturday for Senior Day.
