Senior Day Ends with a 2-0 Loss to ACU

Ascencio and Shankar were honored before the match; Jessup heads to Westmont and The Master's next weekend

ROCKLIN, Calif. – On a windy day in Rocklin, Jessup stepped onto Warrior Field for the final time this season, playing host to Arizona Christian. Needing points to climb the GSAC table, the Warriors fell 2-0, as they now head into the final week of the season.

Before Saturday's match began, Jessup honored their two graduating players in the annual Senior Day ceremony. Alvaro Ascencio and Rahil Shankar were honored in the ceremony.

The Firestorm scored their first goal of the day ten minutes into the match, as Kaden Grub sent home a free kick for his fourth tally of the season. Washington Alves made it a 2-0 game with his goal in the 23rd minute, a shot that deflected in off a Jessup player.

"It was a slow start for us today," said head coach Greg Lazaga. "First time in several games that I could say that. We had a handful of serious chances but still came away empty."

Goalkeeper Gerardo Perez Plata faced six shots on goal, recording four saves in his 90 minutes of action.

The Warriors were only able to get one shot off in the first half, as ACU won the shot count 10-1. Jessup outshot ACU 10-3 in the final 45 minutes, with ACU leading the match 13-11.

Jessup sits on four points with two matches to go in the season. The Warriors sit three points behind Westmont College for the final spot in the GSAC Tournament.

The final week of the season begins on Thursday, October 27, as Jessup visits Westmont in Santa Barbara. The Warriors will then end the season on Saturday when they take on The Master's, another team currently ahead of them in the GSAC standings.
