Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Matthew Horrocks

Late Comeback Clinches a Victory for No. 6 Jessup

Jessup battled back from a 14 point second half deficit; Williams and Corey led the scoring with 19 points each

ASHLAND, Ore. – One day after a loss to Southern Oregon, the Warriors looked to regroup as they wrapped up the Flagship Inn Classic against (RV) Huntington. Halfway through the game, it looked to be a bad night, but a great comeback down the stretch sends the Warriors home happy.

Jessup, now 4-2 this season, took down Huntington 86-79 to give Jessup its first victory of the season against a team receiving national votes.

Head coach Lance Von Vogt spoke after the game, saying, "We just did whatever it took to win the game. We just kept coming at them and kept being gritty. We got better as the game went along. It was a team win."

Jessup trailed by as many as 14 in the second half, as Huntington took the 14-point advantage with 13:03 to play on a three-point play from Zach Goodline. Once this adversity hit, Jessup responded with a 9-0 run.

The second run came with five to go, as an 8-0 run for the Warriors put Jessup on top, 69-67, with Cashemin Williams scoring the go-ahead basket. Jessup would pull away as Jordan Adams scored five straight points, followed with a Myles Corey dunk to put Jessup ahead by five.

Corey would cap off another dunk in the closing seconds to ice the score at 86-79.

Von Vogt reiterated that his team needs to get healthy after this game, adding, "Bottom line is this, for us to accomplish the things that we want to accomplish, we're going to need the guys who are not currently available to get healthy."

"The good news is that we're able to play teams that are receiving votes and national level teams," added Von Vogt. "We're still able to be competitive even when we're down five guys."

The Warriors were led in scoring by their All-American backcourt of Corey and Williams. The duo dropped 19 points each, with Williams adding seven assists to his stat line. Ty Artis also finished in double-figures with 11.

Jessup will now get a chance to take on an NCAA opponent as they visit Nevada on Tuesday for an exhibition.

"Anytime we get a chance to play a division one opponent like Nevada, with their ability and their reputation, it's always something that our guys are going to be really excited about," added Von Vogt.

The exhibition with the Wolf Pack is scheduled for 7 p.m.
