Jessup Falls in Overtime Battle with The College of Idaho

COI charged back into the game with a 10-2 run in the fourth quarter; Jessup to open the GSAC season next week in Southern California

KIRKLAND, Wash. – In day two of the Cascade Challenge, Jessup took on their second foe from the Cascade Collegiate Conference, The College of Idaho Yotes. Things looked to be a carbon copy of yesterday, as the Warriors made a second half run, but in the end overtime was needed as COI stole the victory, 75-70.

Jessup jumped to a 5-2 lead in the first period, backed by a three-point play from Makaila Glynn.
The Yotes ended the period scoring the final six points to take a 16-13 lead into the second.

Two quick baskets to start the second gave Jessup the lead, but in a high scoring period, the Yotes pulled away to take a 38-32 lead into the locker room. The deficit could have been larger, but Jessup cut it to six thanks to late points from Maliyah Perry and Natalie Moulos.

In yesterday's win over Northwest, Jessup saw their offensive spark hit in the second half. That looked to be the same on Saturday when a 9-0 run gave Jessup a 47-43 lead. The run was capped off by a three from Andrea Jovicevic and a bucket from Makaila Napoleon, the two leading scorers from a night ago.

Jessup's third quarter lead would stick as they led 52-47 entering the fourth.

Saturday's fourth quarter started slow, with each team scoring just one bucket each in the first four minutes. But then came the run from COI. A 10-2 run by the Yotes put them on top, 60-59, with two minutes to go.

With 60 seconds to go, Jovicevic went to the free throw line with a chance to take the lead. She split her attempts, tying the contest before a COI basket on the other end regained the lead. Needing a basket, head coach Corey Laster drew up a play to Napoleon on the post, setting up the tying tally with 20 seconds to go.

The Warriors would get a chance to win it in the final seconds, but Moulos' buzzer beating attempt clanked back iron.

Overtime would go in favor of the Yotes, as COI led by as many as seven. The Warriors made a late run, cutting within three with five seconds to go, but time would not be on their side.

The Warriors now shift their focus to the GSAC, as the conference opener is already amongst us. Jessup will be in Southern California next weekend, taking on San Diego Christian Thursday evening for the 2022 GSAC opener.

Jessup will then visit Hope International on Saturday for a rematch from last season's GSAC Tournament. Game times next week are 5:30 p.m. (Thursday) and noon (Saturday).
