FULLERTON, Calif. – With a GSAC win in their pocket after Thursday's dominating performance in San Diego, the Warriors paid a trip to Fullerton to take on Hope International on Saturday. The day did not go the Warriors way, as they move to .500 within the conference after falling 79-50.
The Warriors, now 1-1 within the GSAC, drop to 3-5 overall on the season.
"I didn't think we started well," said head coach
Corey Laster. "I think today we saw one of the top-two teams in the GSAC, so to start slow really hurt us. This experience will help us approach these conference games moving forward. We need to be better at our communication, and we struggled to knock down shots, which never helps you."
Leading the Warriors in the scoring column once again was
Makaila Napoleon, dropping 13 points on 4-of-14 from the floor. Napoleon also finished 4-of-7 at the charity stripe.
Maila Lepolo contributed ten points as the only other player in double-figures for Jessup.
Shiane Talley of Hope International led all players with 18 points in her 23 minutes of action.
Jessup shot 25 percent from the floor, opposed to a 37 percent day by the Royals. Hope International outrebounded the Warriors 63-42, including a 22-10 advantage on the offensive glass.
Hope International scored the first bucket of the day, coming 42 seconds into the contest. They never relinquished the lead, leading for the final 39:18 of the game.
Jessup's best quarter of play came in the second, as they were outscored 17-14 in the period, shooting 28 percent from the floor in the ten-minute section of play. At the break, Jessup trailed 39-26. Hope International outscored Jessup 40-24 in the final half.
The Warriors will be back home next weekend to host the second annual Thanksgiving Classic. Jessup opens with Simpson University on Friday before taking on Oregon Tech on Saturday.
On returning home, Laster added, "We have no choice to but to escape this one today and hopefully learn from it. We have a young team, so being back home always helps. Hopefully we can take advantage of that."
Jessup returns to GSAC action on December 1 when No. 15 ranked Vanguard comes to Warrior Arena.
