No. 15 Jessup Heads Home with Another Loss, Falling to No. 5 Jamestown

Garrison scores a career-high 18 points; Jessup returns home to play six of their next seven inside Warrior Arena

KINGSPORT, Tenn. – Day two of 'The Show' got no easier for the No. 15 ranked Warriors, as they took on the No. 5 ranked Jimmies of Jamestown University. The Warriors started slow and could never climb back from the early deficit as they fall to the Jimmies, 74-66.

Head coach Lance Von Vogt said of the game, "It was good to play against Jamestown, a top-five team, because we needed to find an identity. We hadn't done that yet. And we needed to find an identity and Jamestown, you know, posed an opportunity for us to do that and I thought we did that today. I thought we took a step in the right direction."

A slow start is not what the Warriors wanted, but it's what the Warriors got Sunday morning. Jamestown jumped ahead to a 21-6 advantage, causing Von Vogt to burn two timeouts in the first 5:15 of the game. The run ended on a Jordan Adams triple, giving the Warriors their first basket in over three minutes.

Adams' triple looked to be the spark that lit a fire within the Warriors, as Jessup produced a 19-9 run over the next nine minutes of play, leading to a timeout from the Jimmies as their lead had been cut to five.

At the break, Jessup sat within striking distance, trailing by eight at 35-27.

Jessup closed within four of the Jimmies near the midway point of the second half on a Ty Artis layup. But Jamestown never let Jessup get within one possession, keeping their lead around seven for the majority of the final 20 minutes.

While the Warriors did score the first bucket of the day, Jamestown ended up leading for the final 39 minutes of play as they handed Jessup its fifth loss of the season.

Leading the Warriors in scoring was sophomore Charlie Garrison, dropping 18 points to pair with eight boards. Garrison's 18 points are a career-high for him, surpassing the 17 he scored last season against The Master's.

"Today was his best performance," added Von Vogt on Garrison. "He's rounding himself into game shape. He's going to be a big piece of what we do. And when he gets to game shape, he's going to be even better than he was today."

Myles Corey added 16 points in the loss. Jayden DeJoseph dropped a dozen, knocking down 4-of-6 from distance.

The Warriors now head home to resume the GSAC season Thursday night against Vanguard. It will be Jessup's first home GSAC game of the season, as they opened the conference slate on the road last week.

Jessup will play six of their next seven inside the friendly walls of Warrior Arena. On the homestand, Von Vogt stated, "When I made the schedule this year, I made it I specifically made it as difficult as I could possibly make it not knowing that we were going to be without so many of our horses to start the season. But, you know, having home games and playing in Warrior Arena is going to be a lot of fun. We can't wait to play in our own gym. We've only done it twice this year in nine games. We've been on the road for the other seven."
