Defense Shines as Jessup Tops Life Pacific, 60-35

Jessup held Life Pacific to just six first half points, including a shutout in the second quarter; The Warriors improve their win streak to four

ROCKLIN, Calif. – The one thing better than winning three in a row: winning four in a row. Taking on Life Pacific Saturday on game four of a five-game homestand, Jessup pieced together their best half of the season to start, setting the stage for a 60-35 victory.

Jessup improves to 7-5 overall on the season, and 3-1 within the GSAC. The Warriors have now won four in a row, all on their home court.

Head coach Corey Laster said of the win streak," Anytime you win, morale is always good."

Ball movement was on display in Saturday's win as the Warriors recorded an assist on 21 of their 25 baskets from the field. Maila Lepolo, Makaila Glynn, Natalie Moulos, and Makaila Napoleon contributed four assists apiece.

On the ball movement, Laster added, "I thought the ball movement was great. We put some new zone locks in, so I didn't expect those things to go great for them offensively, but we played about as good of a first half as we've played, especially on the defensive side."

Jessup's defensive efforts highlighted the day as well, as the Warriors held Life Pacific to just six points in the first quarter. As if that wasn't good enough, the Warriors turned it up a notch in the second, pitching a shutout as they outscored LPU 21-0 in the quarter.

Loving what he saw defensively, Laster said of the team's performance, "I thought that was one of our best first halves, especially defensively. We were following the game plan that we had. I told the team in my end of the game talk about all of the good points that we had in the first half."

Napoleon led the Warriors in scoring Saturday, dropping 14 on 6-of-11 from the floor. She also added three rebounds to her line as well. Maliyah Perry came off the bench for 17 minutes, scoring seven.

The Warriors saw a lot of production out of their bench, as eight players saw at least five minutes in reserve.

Laster spoke about the youth on his team contributing, adding, "It's tough when you're a freshman. You have to learn a lot. It's a good thing that you have some people that you can learn from, and this was the type of game where we could get people minutes."

Now with four wins in a row, the Warriors will get some time to recover, as they have just one game next week. But first, the Warriors must focus on finals week.

"We probably have to take some time off and have a little bit of an up-and-down practice week based on the kids having finals," added Laster. "So hopefully, we can get to Friday and feel like we can exhale a little bit and be ready to play."

Jessup will host Menlo Saturday night at 5:30.
