Pitching Steals the Show as Jessup Picks up the Four-Game Sweep of Bushnell

Moreno allows no hits over his five innings of work; Coe, De Highden, and McElwain all homer Saturday

LINCOLN, Calif. – Eyes were on a series sweep going into Saturday, as the Warriors looked to take two more from the visiting Bushnell Beacons. Yes, the bats put on a show, but the showstopper was Jessup's pitching, as they leave the weekend with a 9-4 record.

Getting the nod in game one was Caleb Markwith, and he was masterful. Markwith earned his first win of the season after allowing just one earned run over six innings. He was unhittable at times, striking out eight in the contest.

Chase Marcoe helped limit the bullpen's need in this one, as he tossed three shutout innings to earn his first save of the season.

The Warriors scored runs in the first and third, but the big blast came in the fifth as Jorge Perez drove in two with a triple to right-center. Perez only appeared in one game Saturday and went 3-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored.

Jessup tacked on four in the sixth, two in the seventh, and then two more in the eighth as they won game three of this four-game series, 14-5.

Nicholas Hadd also had a big day in Saturday's opener, going 2-for-3 at the dish with three runs scored, two walks, and a trio of stolen bases.

Logan Coe had the lone homer of the opening game, a mammoth two-run shot to left.

The series finale was again highlighted by pitching, as Max Moreno was handed the ball as the starting pitcher. Moreno set down the first 13 batters he faced in order before allowing Bushnell's first baserunner with a walk in the fifth.

Moreno ended the day tossing five innings with no hits allowed. He did end up walking two, hitting one batter, and allowing two runs (one earned). Shawn Roberts earned the win after tossing the final two innings in relief.

Dustin McElwain started the scoring with a two-run homer in the fourth. Scoring on the homer was Rhys De Highden, and he later joined the power party with a three-run shot to right in the sixth.

Saturday's finale ended with the Warriors taking the game 7-2.

Jessup will hit the road next weekend as the GSAC season begins with a trip to OUAZ. The Warriors and Spirit are scheduled to start both days of the series at 2 p.m. (PST).

Baseball returns to McBean Park on February 24 as the University of British Columbia comes to McBean Park for a three-day, four-game series.
