DAVIS, Calif. – Jessup hit the road up interstate 80 on Saturday to take the courts against their first NCAA Division I opponent. While the match was just an exhibition, it was a great opportunity for a first-year team to compete against a program at the next level.
UC Davis won the match 7-0, but the results do not count towards Jessup's overall records.
The day began with doubles play, and in the one position was the duo of
Sam Smith and
Jordan Lenney. Smith and Lenney competed but lost their bout 6-2.
Over to the second doubles match, the combo of
Aidan Sauer and
Noah Moeckelmann fell 6-0.
Smith started singles play in the number one position yet again. He lost in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. Moeckelmann (6-1, 6-1), Sauer (6-0, 6-1), and Lenny (6-0, 6-1) all lost their singles matches as well.
The Warriors will be back on the courts on February 24 when they visit Chabot College in Hayward. It will be a homecoming for several Warriors, as Smith, Moecklemann, and
Roger Wen also previously competed for Chabot.
Jessup will then begin their inaugural conference season as they take on Westmont College on February 26.
