ROCKLIN, Calif. – One final game in the regular season remained for the Warriors. With positioning within the Golden State Athletic Conference still in play, Jessup welcomed Westmont College to Warrior Arena for the 2022 Senior Day game.
The Warriors could not find their footing in this one, struggling early as Westmont took the game by a final of 78-69.
At the time of completion, the loss drops the Warriors to the three seed for next week's GSAC Tournament. Jessup could move back to the two slot should Hope International lose to Vanguard this evening.
While the loss stings, history was made on the court thanks to
Cashemin Williams' performance of 23 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists. Williams becomes the first player in Jessup Men's Basketball history to eclipse 500 points, 150 assists, and 100 rebounds in a single season.
Also with a great performance on the floor was
Tim Strijaous, who produced a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Warriors struggled to shoot in this one, connecting on just 2-of-21 (9.5-percent) attempts from beyond the three-point line. Jessup shot 38-percent from the field.
Westmont controlled the majority of the first half, leading by as many as 19 at one point. Jessup trailed at halftime by 16, 45-29.
Jessup came out of the break with newfound energy as they quickly cut the Westmont lead to seven with 16:21 to play thanks to a steal and slam from
Tarren Storey-Way.
Storey-Way and five of his teammates were honored before the contest as graduating seniors. Also honored during Senior Day were
Jayden DeJoseph,
Jaylen Johnson, Jordan Admas,
Malik Corey, and
Matthew Schmidt.
After Westmont doubled their lead back up to 14, the Warriors were forced to make another comeback, and after a steal and score from Adams, it looked like Jessup might have a chance. But it was all for not, as free throws ultimately proved to be the deciding factor in Saturday's regular-season finale.
The Warriors drop to 25-5 overall and 13-5 in the GSAC.
Once final seeding is decided within the GSAC, the Warriors will be able to prepare for their next opponent. The tournament will take place next weekend at Hope International University in Fullerton.
