Postseason Preview: Men’s Basketball Prepares to Take on Menlo College Thursday Afternoon

Warriors swept their regular-season series with the Oaks; The 2022 GSAC Tournament will take place at Hope International University in Fullerton

FULLERTON, Calif. – We are just over 24 hours removed from the start of Jessup's run towards a GSAC Championship. First on the schedule is a quarterfinal matchup with Menlo College, tipping off Thursday afternoon at 2:15 p.m.

The 2022 GSAC Men's Basketball Tournament will take place on the campus of Hope International University in Fullerton. The action gets underway Wednesday, with the lowest four seeds playing. It all wraps up Saturday night with a winner-take-all championship game.

Jessup finished the regular season 25-5, a mark better than any team in the history of the men's basketball program. Their record of 13-5 in the GSAC earns Jessup the three seed in this year's conference tournament. The Warriors come into the matchup ranked No. 13 in the nation per the most recent NAIA Coaches' Poll.

The Warriors will take on the six seed in their first matchup, Menlo College. In two meetings with the Oaks this season, the Warriors were victorious each time.

Meeting number one between the Warriors and Oaks came back on December 11. It was a historic night for GSAC Player of the Year Cashemin Williams, as he scored a season-high 36 points, the second-most single-game points in program history.

Jessup shot 49-percent from the floor that night in Atherton and won the rebounding margin 43-25. The final score saw the Warriors improve their record to 12-1 at the time with an 85-75 victory.

The Warriors' second meeting with the Oaks is more recent, occurring on Horton Court on February 5. Jessup was victorious 77-66 that night.

Menlo led through one half in the February 5 matchup thanks to a 46-percent first-half showing compared to just 38-percent from the Warriors. Jessup stormed out of the gates in the second half to outscore the Oaks 49-35.

The Oaks have been led this season by Corey Le'aupepe and N'jai LeBlanc, who average 13.5 and 13.2 PPG, respectively. Parker Haven is scoring an average of 11.5 PPG from the forward position.

At 74.0 PPG, the Oaks come into the postseason with the eighth highest-scoring attack in the GSAC. Jessup sits fourth in that column with an average of 81.6 PPG.

Menlo finished the regular season with a record of 16-11 overall. 8-10 within the GSAC. They are on a two-game win streak, ending their regular season with victories over Westmont and The Master's.

The winner of Thursday's contest will advance to the GSAC Semifinals, where their opponent has yet to be determined. Arizona Christian holds the one seed in the tournament, and neither the Warriors nor Oaks could face the Firestorm until the potential GSAC Championship game Saturday night.
