Warriors Compete in the SDCC Spring Invitational

Salomone and Zulueta led their respective sides; Jessup will host the Warrior Spring Shootout in two weeks

EL CAJON, Calif. – The Warriors escaped a rainy Monday in Rocklin by heading down to the San Diego area for two days on the golf course. Competing in the SDCC Spring Invitational, Jessup continued to prepare for the upcoming GSAC Championship in a field of six other competing GSAC schools.

Ten universities made up the field in the two-day competition. Competing alongside Jessup from the GSAC was Hope International, Menlo, OUAZ, San Diego Christian, Vanguard, and Westmont.

Jessup's men's team featured five Warriors in the 55-player field. Leading WJU was Dominic Salomone, who trimmed four strokes off his scorecard in round two, finishing T54 at +10.

Juan Crespo (39), Joseph Mintmier (T44), Drake Kovaly (52), and Jake Thompson (54) rounded out the field as the Warriors took tenth place as a team.

OUAZ took home the men's team title with a nine-stroke advantage over Embry-Riddle (AZ). Hector Barnetche of OUAZ won the individual title with a five-under par finish after rounds of 68 and 71.

The Jessup women head home after a seventh-place finish as a team. The Warriors were able to trim 16 strokes off their team score in round two to finish strong.

Clarissa Zulueta (32) led Jessup, followed by Macy Anderson (34), Mackinzie Uribe (38), and Tiffany Van Vranken (39).

Maisy Alsen of Embry-Riddle won the individual championship after a final round of 69, putting her -1 for the tournament. Embry-Riddle narrowly edged past Menlo by two strokes to win the team title.

The SDCC Spring Invitational is the final tournament away from Rocklin before the 2022 GSAC Championship. The Warriors will get their turn to play host April 18 – 19 as the Warrior Spring Shootout comes to Whitney Oaks Golf Club.

The 2022 GSAC Championship will take place April 25 – 26 from La Purisma Golf Course in Lompoc.
