On the Final Day of the Season, Jessup Clinches a Spot in the GSAC Tournament

Cole records four RBI in game one Saturday; Jessup draws the six seed in the 2022 GSAC Tournament

ATHERTON, Calif. – It was the final day of the regular season, and as the Warriors woke up, awaiting them was an opportunity to win a spot in the GSAC Tournament. In Atherton for two more with the Menlo Oaks, a split may have ended the regular season, but Jessup Baseball will continue in May.

News broke early Saturday morning that a make-up game between Menlo and OUAZ would not occur, meaning the Warriors could finish no worse than a half-game ahead of OUAZ. Before ever stepping on the field, Jessup had secured a spot in the GSAC Tournament.

However, there was still something to play for. Had the Warriors left Menlo with a four-game sweep, a possibility of moving the five seed was still in play. By dropping game one Saturday, the Warriors will enter the postseason in the sixth slot.

Dylan Cole sparked the Jessup offense in game one. The former Oak got the Warriors on the board with an RBI single. He then added two more with a two-run shot in the third.

Menlo's bats came to life early in this one as they put up crooked numbers in two of the first three innings. Through four innings, the Oaks led 6-3.

Two runs in the fifth got Jessup within one, but Menlo countered for four straight runs to put the game out of reach. Cole got his fourth RBI of the day in the ninth, a bases-loaded walk, but it wasn't enough in a 10-6 loss.

Menlo started the scoring in game two, taking a 1-0 lead into the second, but Jessup was not going to let what happened in game one occur again. RBI from Jaisten Cabatbat, Joseph Hayden, and Kawaiola Takemura put the Warriors on top 4-1.

Jessup then decided to leave the ballpark, twice actually, as Dirk Ryan and Jorge Perez each hit towering solo home runs to pad the Jessup lead after Menlo cut within one.

Left-hander Max Moreno started the series finale, lasting three innings before turning the ball to another starter, Danny Chavez. Chavez got a lot of work done this weekend, as he tossed five innings yesterday before throwing 2.2 more today. Marlin Brucato earned the save.

Next on the schedule comes the postseason, as the Warriors close out the regular season with a winning record of 25-24. It's the fifth straight regular season in which the Warriors have finished with a winning record.

The Warriors will take on the top seed in the GSAC, the regular champions of Vanguard. The conference tournament starts on May 2 from OC Great Park in Irvine.
