ROCKLIN, Calif. – Goals came in bunches on Warrior Field for the home-standing Warriors. Kicking off match one of a four-match homestand, Jessup powered home five goals for their fans as they took down the visiting Pioneers of Pacific Union, 5-0.
It was a historic performance by Jessup, whose five tallies proved to be the most offense the team has put forth since September 23, 2019. That day, a 13-0 win, came coincidentally against Pacific Union.
"It's fun to score goals," said head coach
Greg Lazaga. "I'm proud of our boys for continuing to learn and grow together. We will continue to take it one game at a time."
Luis Castillo was the first to get on the board and wasted little time doing so. After
Diego Nunez took a rip on goal from inside the 18-yard box, the ball ricocheted right to the feet of Castillo,
who placed one in the back of the net.
Castillo would net his second goal of the day in the 51st minute.
Also finding the back of the net twice on Tuesday was Nunez. Not content with just an assist, Nunez scored in the 48th minute after dribbling downfield and beating the keeper one-on-one. His second strike of the match came in the 65th minute.
The third Warrior to find the scoresheet was
Isaac Morfin, whose 59th-minute goal is his second of the season.
Lazaga stated after the match, "We went into the game thinking we could catch their back line in some transition plays. In the first half, we were a little early on our runs. We figured out our timing in the second half and made some good deliveries behind with clear chances on goal."
The Warriors were called offside five times in the opening 45 minutes.
Jessup split time in goal on Tuesday.
Gerardo Perez Plata recorded five saves in his 59 minutes of play.
Antonio Camacho made his debut in the second half. He did not face a shot on goal.
Pacific Union attempted ten shots (five on goal) Tuesday but were outshot by Jessup, 16-10.
Heat was a big factor in Tuesday's contest as temperatures rose to over 100 degrees on the turf. Due to the excessive heat warning in effect this weekend, Friday's contest against the University of Antelope Valley has been moved up to 11 a.m.
Tickets purchased prior to the change in match time are still valid. Fans can purchase tickets at the gate or online
