ROCKLIN, Calif. – Jessup kicked off the 2022 Golden State Athletic Conference season on Thursday, hosting the Royals of Hope International University. After the Warriors got off to a fast start, things began to spiral, leading to a 3-1 win for the Royals.
Hope International got on the board first in the fifth minute as a misplayed ball in the box led to Ryley Candelario scoring her third goal of the season. The goal came against
Olivia Foulk, who started for Jessup, but just a minute after the tally, Foulk would leave the match with an injury.
On came
Mya Rodriguez to play the next 56 minutes before being subbed for
Madeline Jern.
Jessup knotted up the score in the 25th minute on a great run from
Aaliyah Grigsby.
Olivia Chimienti played the ball up to Grigsby, who then dribbled her way to a one-on-one chance that she converted.
It was Grigsby's second goal of the season.
After the halftime intermission, Hope International struck twice in five minutes. First, Sarah Ralston gave the Royals the lead on a penalty kick. Candelario then scored her second goal of the day.
Jessup was outshot 18-11 in this one, 8-3 in shots on goal.
The Warriors will be on the road next week, continuing the conference season against Vanguard on Thursday, October 6. Jessup will head to San Diego Christian to wrap up the Southern California trip on October 8.
Jessup will be back home on October 20 for the final homestand of the season.
